Today is a landmark day as Barack Obama will be sworn into office.

My hope is that every American sees they have limitless capacity to ascend so they might serve the nation and their community.

It is an important step. It will continue with more black men and women taking office at every level of public service. It will continue with more black men and women leading your community as private business owners and school administrators. It will continue with gifted men and women of all race and religion playing the role of hero to all young people.

I am inspired by Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Everything I hear the man say is true, confident, and from the heart. His priorities are to serve his family and God, and he maintains an unbroken focus on the tasks at hand. I’m no rabid Steelers fan, but he is my hero.

This video is a few months old, but it’s pretty good. It’s an excellent portrait of a rather charming leader.

In two parts, here are videos of his introductory press conference when he was hired as head coach. Check out Part 1, pretty cool as he’s lead the Steelers back to the Super Bowl in only two seasons. Check out Part 2 to see what great perspective he has had since day one.

“My hope is that every American sees they have limitless capacity to ascend so they might serve the nation and their community.”

This is something that is so true, and it’s so great that you said it. There is such a low hanging cloud of depression hanging over our nation right now. I find myself affected by it as well. We, as individuals, are powerful, but as a collective we have power that is limitless in what it can achieve.

Great post!
